Festival Insurance
The three aspects of festival insurance are:
- Promoter Liability
- Vendor Liability
- Performer Liability
Promoters - Insurance for music festivals is a complicated risk and it's important to get the correct concert insurance policy without exclusions. Why pay for a piece of paper if it doesn't cover claims for promoters? The genre of music, ticket sales, location, staging, vendor and alcohol sales determine the premium, or price, of your concert insurance. Some of the costs of insurance should be transferred to the vendors within the indemnification section of a contract. Some promoters carry the coverage on behalf of vendors, or within a wrap up or contingent policy. Your vendors should also carry individual insurance coverage. By deciding to transfer a portion of the risk you are making a solid decision to protect your future as a promoter. Alcohol sales can be operated by the facility, but the promoter should carry some limits to be sure they are afforded defense costs in case of a lawsuit. Vendors - Vendors include food, alcohol, sales and non-sales operations. Most vendors will find that insurance is affordable. Exceptions include jewelry, nutritional products, makeup and face painting related vendors. Food and alcohol vendors should be ready to provide their insurance in advance as both are highly regulated and subject to local ordinances and must have insurance. Performers - DJ Insurance, Musician Insurance, Band Insurance involves 2 aspects: Entertainers and Artists insurance and musical equipment insurance. As performers, you can be named, individually in a lawsuit if a riot, injury, trip and fall, or alcohol related negligent act occurs during your performance. Specific to tours, there's Inland Marine policy that covers traveling of equipment. In addition, there's coverage specific to your instruments and equipment that you do not take on tour.
